Siskiyou Massage

Before moving to the Rogue Valley in 2004 from Colorado, Philip Whitmore, owner of Siskiyou Massage Clinic at 246 4th Street (across from the Peerless in Ashland), had already received more than twice the training as an orthopedic/medical massage practitioner than was required in Oregon.
"I had great teachers and I was very motivated to learn from them," Philip said. "I also had a busy massage practice in Boulder before I left. When I started my practice in Ashland, I feel like I had a bit of a leg up due to my experience in Colorado."
In 2010, Philip and his wife bought an old house on Gibson Street here in Talent. "We love the neighborhood and we love living in downtown Talent," he said. "Talent meets our needs and fits our lifestyles very nicely. It's peaceful like we like it. I was raised in Colorado, my wife in Michigan and we met in the funky town of Nederland, Colorado. Nederland is a great town but has a growing season of about a week and a half. That and the fact that you can get sunburned 360 days out of the year are two reasons we're here."

Grand Opening of CrossFit Potential

Adam Eggertsen moved to the Rogue Valley in 2000 to get a college degree in Health and Fitness, and now after two years as a worksite health promotion specialist, and ten years as a personal trainer and Yoga teacher, he and Mary Timoshenko have been running a crossfit training business out of their backyard, but the two will soon be opening CrossFit Potential in the new Dragonfly Plaza, Suite E at 806 South Pacific Highway here in Talent.
"We are extremely excited to move our growing gym into the Talent community," Adam said. "I have always wanted to run my own gym and I love CrossFit. It is an amazing way to stay in shape for whatever life throws at us."
The two are serious about their trade, not only do they talk the talk, but they walk the walk by exemplifying health and vitality through good living. "Mary's passion and exuberance are contagious, you can't help but being energized when you are in her presence," Adam said.

Middleway Medicine Finds a New Home in Downtown Talent

Ann and Clark Zimmerman are excited to announce the relocation of their acupuncture and herbal clinic, Middleway Medicine, to 88 Lapree Drive here in downtown Talent. We recently had the opportunity to ask the friendly husband-and-wife team a few questions...

How long you've lived in Talent?

We have lived in Talent for 9 years. After meeting in Portland at Chinese Medical school in 2000 our friendship grew from study buddies to husband and wife. Upon graduation, we got married and began our search for the perfect "home." We were looking for a slower pace of life that would offer us a good gardening climate, culture and access to the wilderness. The Rogue Valley was our perfect fit and after exploring the different towns in the valley, Talent grabbed us immediately.

The New Downtowne Grill and Coffee

Sarah and Dan Goyette, owners of Downtowne Grill and Coffee, moved to Talent from Ashland after they became engaged 12 years ago. What follows is the true account of how the two met, married, bought a coffeehouse, had a vision of expanding their business concept, and then patiently made that dream a reality...oh, and they also had a baby during the thick of the remodel (Evan Ocean Goyette, born August 16, 2014; welcome to Talent, little buddy!).
Dan has been a mocha drinker since 1996, when he tried a local drive-thru coffee stand near his home in Welches, Oregon (on Mt. Hood), he was hooked from then on. Dan estimates that he has drunk more than 6,000 mochas and counting!
Sarah (who was born on 3rd Street here in Talent) worked as a coffee barista at La Baguette Bakery in Ashland, where she and Dan met. Dan used to live just around the corner and would come in daily for his fix of coffee and Sarah's company.
The idea of owning a coffeehouse had been on Dan's mind for some time, in part because he figured he could get his mochas at cost that way. When they moved to Talent, Dan became a regular at Downtowne Coffee. When the owners decided to sell the business, Sarah and Dan got in line, and to their delight they became the new owners in August of 2006.
