GREAT FOOD & BREWS AT CLIMATE CITY

February 2023

Climate CityWhen Dustin Myers was presented with the opportunity to become a manager partner of Climate City Brewing Company (509 SW G Street) in early 2020, little did he know that a worldwide pandemic was just months away.

“I’ve been in the restaurant business for 25 years,” he said. “My first job was as a host in an Italian restaurant at The Washington Square Mall in Tigard in 1998. I worked in restaurants through college and now 25 years later I’m still in love with the industry. In 2015 the move to Grants Pass also included purchase of The Vine Restaurant. After establishing that business, a casual conversation led me to become managing partner of CCBC at the beginning of 2020, right in time for Covid. The pandemic shifted the course of my efforts from rebranding to surviving. Making it through the most interesting two years I have had in the industry, I was able to buy out my partners at the end of 2022 and am excited to start 2023 with a fresh look toward the Building a solid home base for his kids became an important part of Dustin’s decision to move to Grants Pass.

“I have lived all over Oregon, in Washington state, Nevada, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and upstate New York,” he said. “I am thankful for my diverse personal and professional experience in different places and also happy to be able to give my children a backbone of consistency in a beautiful area of a state that’s more home to me than any other place I’ve been.”

Customer service is number one at Climate City. While famous for its wide selection of microbrews and cocktails, the menu includes everything from appetizers and small plates to salads, burgers, sandwiches, hand-tossed pizzas and entrees (like chicken pot pie and baked sausage & shrimp rigatoni).

“Our recipes are constantly being optimized, so I guess you could say an additional product we offer is great food and drink on purpose,” Dustin said. “After eight years in operation, we’re still working to improve and bring fresh ideas to the table. I taste our pizza crust every day to make sure it’s been prepared correctly. The recipe for our sauce has been tweaked more times than I can count. Burger buns are just as important as the meat they hold, and I research which distributer has the best lettuce, cheese, or bacon. After an item has been on the menu for a while, we take customer feedback into consideration before reprinting. Does it stay or go? Do we need to change the way the chicken is grilled? Has the product shifted in any way? Each element has been created for their enjoyment.”

Dustin sees Climate City as a family business. “I am proud that my sons have grown up in my restaurants as I’ve watched my coworkers’ and customers’ lives unfold and families grow,” he said. “We aim to contribute meaningfully to our community and believe this to be of utmost importance. Restaurants are a community gathering place as well as a business, and the celebrations we’ve hosted are the cornerstone of the concepts I build our work on. It’s more than an exchange of food for cash—my restaurants are places where life happens. We also happen to make great pizza and beer.”

In 2021, Climate City welcomed Steam Distillery to the building, and the connection has proven harmonious. The two establishments share space and a commitment to excellent ingredients and service.

“I’m so thankful for the support we’ve received in my eight years in this valley,” Dustin said. “It’s been a crazy ride, and when times got tough, I experienced an outpouring of care from this community. I am honored to serve here, and that wouldn’t be possible without the families who frequent these restaurants and support our teams.”
