South Valley Pool & Spa

July 2017

South Valley Pool & SpaMeteorologists are predicting a hot, dry summer. If you’re lucky enough to have a pool (or spa) in your backyard, you’ll probably want to visit South Valley Pool and Spa, which recently opened at 401 S. Pacific Highway in Talent.

The store, which is owned by Tim and Missy Dawson, “provides materials for the maintenance of pools and spas.” And it’s more than just that.

“In addition to our physical location, we also offer repair services by an experienced technician (Tim),” Missy said. “To say he has a ‘fully-stocked service truck’ would be an understatement. We feel comfortable saying that Tim has seen (and fixed) every problem before. Customers who have a repair that they can’t do on their own should schedule a repair visit.”

South Valley Pool and Spa is truly a classic Mom & Pop business. “Missy and I have been married for almost 40 years, and we have three adult children and three grandchildren,” Tim said. “To date, everyone has played a part in the store’s journey, whether it was hauling dirt during renovation or figuring out how to connect a wireless printer before opening day. Our son built our website himself. The grandchildren have been the most helpful in their role as our cookie critics when Customer Cookie Day comes around.”

Tim co-owned and operated a solar thermal business from 1980 to 2008. A large part of the solar thermal business has always included repairing and servicing pool and spa equipment.

Over time, it began to make more and more sense to shift the focus of the business to ground-level equipment—instead of roofs and ladders—so in 2008 Tim moved to a pool and spa repair business.
“It seemed a natural evolution to expand to a retail store in order to provide the parts and other products that our service customers needed,” Tim said. “People talk about a ‘one stop shop,’ but we really are now. We sell and distribute pool and spa chemicals, non-traditional sanitation systems for pools and spas, pumps, filters, and just about everything to help support pool and spa owners in maintaining their water and systems.”

Tim and Missy both grew up near Chicago. “We moved to Ashland in 1980 with our son,” Missy said. “We headed west looking for a better place to raise our family. Oregon was it for us. We later had two daughters here, and we have never looked back.”

In the future, South Valley Pool & Spa will offer pool and spa cleaning and routine chemical balancing. They will also be selling new spas at some point. To check out their menu of products and services, go to www.southvalleypoolandspa.com.

“We’re also very focused on ensuring pool safety for every family,” Missy said. “Pool and spa owners can always check out our website for water safety tips and links to national organizations offering kid-friendly ways to talk about water hazard awareness. Or feel free to stop in and chat with us in person.”
Keep an eye on their Facebook page for great sales and offers all summer long.

“And while there, check out the photos of our location renovation,” Tim said. “It was a lot of hard work, but the space looks great.”
